This year, the Young Maaskant Award goes to architects Eileen Stornebrink and Willie Vogel, the founders of Studio Inscape.

On Friday, November 22, 2024, the Big Maaskant Award was awarded at Rotterdam City Hall to the collective behind the NL2120 project. Mayor Carola Schouten presented the prestigious award during a festive ceremony.

This year, the Big Maaskant Award is awarded to a collective of scientists, government bodies, businesses, and societal actors behind the NL2120 project. NL2120 offers an inspiring vision for the climate-adaptive, nature-inclusive, and carbon-neutral spatial planning of the Netherlands.

The Big Maaskant Award is being awarded this year to project NL2120. Alex Hekman is the director of this remarkable consortium and Business Director Water at engineering firm Sweco in Rotterdam. In a telephone interview, he discusses the ambition of NL2120, an initiative focused on the implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS) in the Netherlands.

We are very enthusiastic to introduce the new board members of the Rotterdam Maaskant Foundation to you: Robert Winkel (architect and founder of Mei architects and planners) and Hans Mommaas (Director of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency). They are joining our board and taking over from several important departing members. The foundation has said farewell to our chairman Ahmed Aboutaleb, former Mayor of Rotterdam.

The Big Maaskant Award 2022 has been awarded to ‘spiritual leadsman’ Floris Alkemade.

The Young Maaskant Award 2021 goes to Raoul Vleugels and Niels Groeneveld from their Werkstatt agency, leaders in ecological and socio-economic construction.

The Big Maaskant Award 2020 goes to Michelle Provoost, she combines reflection with practice and knows how to involve others in the fortunes of the city from an original perspective.
